About Us
The Center for Quality Standards in Government (CQSG) was formally established in 2019 as a specialized division within the American Society for Quality (ASQ) Government Division.
Our creation stemmed from the Government Division’s multi-year initiative, beginning in 2013, to develop and formalize auditable quality standards specifically for government operations.
Our Vision
We envision a world where governments at all levels achieve the highest performance standards through the implementation of recognized quality practices. We believe that structured, measurable approaches to quality are essential for effective and efficient government operations.
Our Mission
We are dedicated to researching, developing, maintaining, and educating on recognized standards that enable governments to objectively evaluate their quality maturity and advance toward operational excellence. Through quality standards and best practices, we provide a framework for governments to benchmark and improve their processes and systems.
What We Do
- Develop and enhance quality standards for government operations, including ANSI G1 and other specialized frameworks
- Conduct and produce research into quality management best practices specifically for public sector applications
- Document and disseminate proven methodologies and implementation strategies for our quality standards
- Conduct formal validations and information assessments of government organizations against our quality standards
- Education individuals who are qualified to evaluate government operations under ANSI G1
- Provide award-level recognition and validation to quality organizations under our quality standards

The CQSG brings together quality professionals from all sectors of government, including leaders, consultants, analysts, practitioners, and academics. Our diverse membership is united by a shared commitment to improving government performance through quality management principles.
